  • Originally broadcast on WQED-TV, Pittsburgh in the early 1990s, this program chronicles the history of the Negro baseball leagues through the memories of Hall-of-Famers Monte Irvin, Buck Leonard, and Satchel Paige, as well as the comments of playwright August Wilson, novelist John Edgar Wideman, and journalist Mal Goode.

    I am a Filipino but after watching 42 I became obsessed with watching these videos. Truly this these men are such an inspiration. They enjoy the game regardless of the circumstances during the time and remain thankful. Love, love them.

    I had this on VHS when I was a teenager. Always thought there should be a set of these describing the teams, the all stars, etc.

    The last 10 minutes summed up perfectly what "the great experiment " was really about.
    The integration of baseball killed a industry that was thriving in the black community during the depression and was a shining example of seeing blacks using there economic power.
    Black: Owner, players, employees, writers, coaches, umpires and patrons it all makes sense

      It says 1993 in the title, that's around the time I got the vhs, I'm assuming then? Or maybe they filmed it earlier, inserting it later.
